REGARDS.  //

URBAN MUSEOGRAPHY INSTALLATION

BACHELOR PROJET

2019

Supervisor : Maire-Agnès REVERT

For this project I wished to pass on my love for cities - especially Nantes' architectural heritage - by offering to the public a contemplative and oneiric stroll around the city.

I chose to work on Les Quais de la Fosse (Nantes, FRANCE) because it has a dense history which is translated on the buildings with mascarons and decorative railings.

This area is steeped in a maritime atmosphere because of its location (close to the ancient seaport), it was indeed the ship-owner district and it is also nearby Jules Verne's house. That is the reason why I decided to draw my inspiration from "20 000 lieues sous les mers".

That how "regards." is born.

The project is made of six temporary installations taking the form of five Kraken's tentacles in which the public is invited to enter.

Inside the atmosphere is inspired by the Steampunk trend - itself inspired by Jules Verne's universe - and it offers two levels of interpretation. The first one being basic explanations of the history and archietctural details, the second one being observation devices taking the form of periscopes. The periscopes allow the visitors to observe details on the buildings which are explained previously.

Outside the colors were picked in order to make a reference to the Sci-Fi atmosphere in order to call on person's imagination and fantasy and doing so appeal them to discover the exposition.
